Kettles for victory

Nothing defines a nation more than where it keeps its kettles. Whenever I am offered a cup of tea and my Canadian host has to search their kitchen cupboards for their kettle, I could cry. There is a certain homesickness that comes from the sight of a kettle residing in a cupboard. Kettles were meant to be on counter tops. How else are you going to drink 20 cups of tea a day? Brits reading this are now in shock. They have never seen a kitchen where the kettle is stored away. They are wondering how a person can exist without having the electrical equipment on hand which is necessary to make a nice cup of tea at a moment's notice.
Canada, liberate your kettles. It's making me sad.

  1. Hm... I know quite a few of us who keep our electric kettles on the counter.
